Pseudotsuga menziesii research

Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco, Douglas-fir, was introduced to Portugal in the 19th century. The first plantations were established in the beginning of the 20th century and since then it has been planted on the mountainous areas in the centre and the north of the country. Pseudotsuga menziesii as a small planted area although. the high potential for Douglas-fir in the mountain areas in the centre and north of Portugal has been recognised due to its speed of growth and adaptability.

To investigate the potential of Pseudotsuga menziesii in Portugal the research focused on its growth and in the genetic background from the existing growing provenances. The outcome of the Pseudotsuga menziesii research can be seen in the following published work:
